START WITH THE DECISION

The program is not the starting point.

The first question is not which opportunity sounds impressive. It is what gap the opportunity must close. Until that is clear, applications create activity without direction.

Direction · Proof · Skill · Access · Accommodation

INSIDE THE GUIDE

A practical system for choosing the right bridge.

  1. Compare seven pathways side by side.
  2. Test every opportunity through four decision gates.
  3. Work through time, cost, outcomes, and tradeoffs.
  4. Finish with a seven-day action plan and an owned decision.

Covers job shadowing, micro-internships, internships, returnships, fellowships, registered apprenticeships, SkillBridge, and veteran-specific support.

BUILT TO BE USED

Clear enough to decide. Practical enough to act.

Eight focused pages. Built for screen or print.

Built from service, transition, and decision work.

Kirby Ingles is a retired Army First Sergeant, combat veteran, leadership and wellness coach, author, and sports official. He helps experienced leaders facing consequential decisions determine what deserves their effort, make an owned decision, and turn that decision into disciplined action.

Kirby is a DAV member. He used SkillBridge through Hiring Our Heroes and completed an internship. He attended DAV Patriot Boot Camp in August 2019. He also applied for VA Veteran Readiness and Employment and chose not to continue because it was not the right fit for his circumstances and direction, not because of a deficiency in the program.
